A Very Important Note on Fabric Selection (The "Algorithm Rebellion" Mandate):
Look closely at the blazing red head and textured yellow breast. When you open the pattern guide, you will see a list of suggested fabric colors. I am begging you to ignore them. Those suggestions are based on a computer calculating the average hex codes of the image, and a computer does not possess the chaotic, brilliant, creative mind of a quilter.

If you use flat, solid fabrics based on those hex codes, your majestic Western Tanager will end up looking like a low-res piece of mid-century corporate clip art. To achieve this level of intense, feathered majesty, you need texture. You need batiks, grunges, and mottled blenders that mimic real plumage and rustic tree bark. Raid your stash for the most brilliant sunset hues and moodiest darks you own to give this creature a soul. You are the artist here; the hex codes are just suggestions made by a machine that doesn't even know how to sew.

Fabric Friendly: As stated above, this pattern begs for BATIKS and GRUNGE. Fiery reds, textured yellows, and marbled darks are your absolute best friends here.

Step 1: Print, Prep, and Nest

Print all FPP patterns at 100% scale. Use lightweight newsprint paper so you don't accidentally rip your stitches out when tearing it away later.

Gather your glorious pile of fiery textured fabrics, install a fresh rotary blade, and clear off your cutting mat.

Step 2: Feathering the Flock

Cut your pieces according to the templates. Label everything. If you mix up a red head feather with a piece of the brown branch, your songbird is going to look deeply confused.

Sew along the lines. Trust the lines. Breathe through the tiny, sliver-thin points of the beak and talons.

Step 3: Assembling the Aviary

Sew your completed blocks together row by row, marveling as an intensely detailed, glowing bird magically perches on your workspace.

Press your seams like your life depends on it. Flat birds fly better.

Step 4: The Migration Reveal

Tear away the foundation paper, visualizing each discarded scrap as a tiny victory over numerical logic.
